“Where the press is free and every man able to read, all is safe.” –Thomas Jefferson

“To the press alone, chequered as it is with abuses, the world is indebted for all the triumphs which have been gained by reason and humanity over error and oppression.” –James Madison

“There is nothing absurd or impracticable in the idea of a league or alliance between independent nations for certain defined purposes precisely stated in a treaty regulating all the details of time, place, circumstance, and quantity; leaving nothing to future discretion; and depending for its execution on the good faith of the parties.” –Alexander Hamilton, Federalist No. 15

As much as I would have hated it in school…Every American kid needs to read the Federalist Papers.

I love how you seperated Jefferson and Hamilton with Madison.

Jefferson and Hamilton were of course bitter enemies. Washington himself once took each of them aside seperately after a particularly nasty exchange of anonymous newspaper articles and asked them if they were responsible as rumoured. Speaking thus with Washington, Jefferson attacked Hamilton and spouted a stream of invective in Hamilton’s direction whilst claiming no part in the matter. When Hamilton in turn spoke with Washington, Washington asked him the same question ‘Are you responsible for the newspaper articles attacking Jefferson?’ To which Alexander replied that he indeed was the writer but he was writing in his own defence and would stop if Jefferson chose to do so.

He didn’t scream and yell he remained calm and dignified and set an example for dignity. So it is with These American leaders. Bush is the one setting the tone as an American whilst Kerry authors the slurs he won’t own up to.

The point is that there have been bitter rivalries in America, even amongst the Founding fathers, but the very idea of America itself always trancends such pettiness…And the truth has outed.

I could pretend I did it on purpose but instead I’ll just say thanks for an informative post.
