Jane Novak “The other John Kerry” (Aug.25)
Thank you for running this very informative article. It’s important for Americans and people around the world to understand the nature of the US electoral system; it’s even more important for us to remain aware of those who, like John Kerry, would abuse that system and the public trust.

Jane Novak has apparently decided to disregard the truth and the facts much like the Bush administration, whom I suspect she supports. She fails to mention that the Republican tactics she claims the Democrats are crying “foul” over have been well documented for years. They have applied the same smear campaigns to Max Cleland and John McCain, that is a fact. Another fact is that none of the men who appear in the Swift Boat commercial served with Kerry. Already their accounts have been proven by actual eyewitness and naval records to be categorically false; in fact a few have already discredited their involvement with the ad campaign. Even in the current state of diminishing freedoms, Novak still has the right to express her opinion. It is a shame. however, that her published opinion chooses to completely disregard facts for her own political leanings.

While you do show both sides, this article is biased. I am a Republican and a veteran. I don’t like or trust Kerry. I am voting against George W. Bush. Any Republican should. I think that it a shame and a sham that Bush and his Cabinet dare call themselves Republicans. I will have to hold my nose and vote for Kerry so that real Republicans like myself can take back our political party. Ever wonder why Dick Cheney isn’t in jail? Amazing, isn’t it? It’s almost like the Bush administration is crooked or something.

I would like to make three comments about this article. First, by impugning the medals awarded to Kerry, the Swift Boat veterans are bringing into question all medals the navy has awarded. If the navy’s process in awarding bronze stars and purple hearts is flawed, and was flawed more than once in awarding medals to Kerry – as the Swift Boat ads claim – can we “trust” any medals awarded to anyone under this flawed system? Secondly, the US is presently facing a scandal of abuses in Iraqi prisons. It is being found out that although many knew of what was transpiring, only one young soldier spoke up about what was happening. Are the Swift Boat Veterans saying that Kerry should not have spoken out about atrocities which we know did occur? Lastly, Soros gives financial aid to the Move On PACT which is not the same as Move On.Com. Move-On.Com is funded by thousands of Americans who send in donations to fund Move-On.com initiatives. Quite different from the funding of the Swift Boat Veterans which are not primarily funded by individual donations from Americans.

For me it is scary to think we may have a president Kerry. He needs to address issues with facts in stead of badgering Bush on every turn.

This article seems quite biased toward Bush. For example, “ran an ad attacking the Bush administration for cutting education funding and veterans’ benefits. Based on President Bush’s latest budget, both education spending and the Veterans Affairs budget would increase by more than 35 percent.” His latest budget? He’s had three plus years to improve things, but instead he has cut veterans’ benefits, or do you not like hard facts? I suppose not, based on your obvious preference for US Bush. Sincerely, a nonsupporter of your “newspaper.”

It is obvious that the person who wrote this article is in the Bush camp. So much for an objective reporting of the truth. Perhaps Jane would be more at home on the FOX News Network with the rest of the Republicans.

I am glad to see the media looking at this in a fair way.
It’s very clear that John Kerry’s complaining and threats of lawsuits shows how little he is. Too many lies have caught up with him. Bush just needs to bring jobs back to America.

This article belongs above the fold on page one everywhere. The only flaw is in the conclusion: The Cambodia issue raises the question: if this man would fabricate a story on the floor of the Senate in 1986 for the express purpose of impacting US foreign policy, what would he fabricate in the Oval Office?

Thank You Jane Novak! John Kerry may want to “report for duty” as president now, but when he had the opportunity during Vietnam, he hyped/fabricated events to “earn” a technical discharge (after only four months), and then dishonored those with whom he served by lying before Congress. And to top it all off, he then joined “Hanoi” Jane Fonda and provided aid and comfort to the enemy, which was used against our POWs. After the people “really” get to know you, John Kerry, you’ll be wishing it was Howard Dean who was at the top of the Democrat ticket, and not you, when President Bush is re-elected this November.

“The Other John Kerry” is misleading and destructive. Perhaps 527’s, politicians and so-called reporters should be held to the standards set for libel and slander. Who should become a soldier if they will be smeared by chicken hawks paid by lying war-criminals with guilty consciences? Bush never deserved the presidency, and if he is re-elected it will ensure the destruction of the United States of America as a superpower, because of the destructive policies of the gang who seized America and propped him up into office. I disapprove of Jane Novak.
