CBS Internal Memo

–RatherBiased.com
has obtained a copy of a memorandum that CBS has sent out to all of its affiliates regarding the Memogate controversy. In the message meant to ease the fears of affiliate managers who have been deluged with angry viewer feedback and a huge amount negative media coverage, the network denies a recent Drudge Report story that CBS News has mounted an internal investigation into the Memogate controversy. It emphatically stands behind the network’s story that the Killian memos are not forgeries.

RatherBiased.com obtained the memorandum from a news director at a CBS affiliate who asked not to be identified.

THE FOLLOWING IS A STATEMENT ISSUED BY CBS NEWS:

For the record, CBS News stands by the thoroughness and accuracy of the 60 MINUTES report this Wednesday on President Bush’s service in the Texas Air National Guard. This report was not based solely on recovered documents, but rather on a preponderance of evidence, including documents that were provided by unimpeachable sources, interviews with former Texas National Guard officials and individuals who worked closely back in the early 1970s with Colonel Jerry Killian and were well acquainted with his procedures, his character and his thinking. In addition, the documents are backed up not only by independent handwriting and forensic document experts but by sources familiar with their content. Contrary to some rumors, no internal investigation is underway at CBS News nor is one planned. We have complete confidence in our reporting and will continue to pursue the story.

They are in sooooo much trouble. Ever since Charles created a copy of the one memo I knew they were fakes. Rebutals are flying, but will eventually fly nowhere. CBS appears to realize this, and is hoping to wait the issue out. Good luck.
