It’s hard not to be falistic about the future of NY. Islamic Fundmentalist rats are potentially everywhere watching and waiting for an opportunity to wreak distruction. It’s a religious war and nothing says it won’t last 100 years. I don’t think we have the staying power to keep our guard up forever. Complacency has already set in among the population as a whole.

The best place to start in avoiding such atrocities in the future was, according to the US govt, in case we forget that too, Afghanistan and Iraq
http://www.duckdaotsu.org/valor.html
1,000 deaths in Iraq (not counting Afghanistan etc, Iraqi and Afghanistan civilian death toll) before 11th of September and still no sign of who carried out the atrocity being brought to justice. Still, that’s a minor point when your engaged in such huge scale social engineering projects abroad (much like Stalin used to enjoy indulging in).

Like a lot of people I am always struck by the vindictive nature of that sign ‘we will never forget’, does anyone know who is responsible for this wording and its display in public?
I have always been curious about the person responsible for this.

I think a more decent wording, such as displayed by other heartfelt memorials, should have be something along the lines of ‘we will always remember’.
What do you think?

I prefer the slogan “We Will Never Forgive”

Joe,
Not forgetting and always remembering are the same thing. The term “we will never forget” has been a phrase used for years in the government; just like “Don’t tread on me”.

The only difference I can see in the two phrases lies in the underlying connotations. The first “we sill never forget” gives the connotation that we will make the physical effort to remember what happened and “never forget it”. The “we will always remember” gives the impression of weakness in that “we don’t want to remember, but we always will”.

I wish I could do just that: forget, but I will always remember. This is a true statement but with the unfortunate side effect of sounding like I have no choice.

On the other side of the coin my refusal to forget something gives grammatical action to the previously inactive statement. I would rather be active than inactive. It’s the American way.

…and I would prefer the term “green glass”. (To the uninitiated, green glass is what happens to sand at extreme heat/nuclear temperatures, google gives out garbage links.)

One more thing joe,

When are you starting your own blog? It’s a pretty easy thing to to.

One more thig Joe, you’re right. We are complacent as a whole. We need the rules to prevent complacency, like what is going on with the airlines as a whole. Although not impossible, it IS harder to sneak stuff through.

Unlike ‘Rob’, who obviously isn’t a christian, the September Eleventh Families for Peaceful Tomorrows http://www.peacefultomorrows.org/
are not vindictive, neither do they have selective memory like some others.
Read their anniversary messege here http://www.peacefultomorrows.org/#threeyearslater
I am surprised it hasn’t been posted onto this blog,
