Just to expand your entry…
The Ed-in-Chief, Khaled Al-Maeena, often gets it right. He’s got an editorial today about how one simply cannot negotiate with terrorists.
Khalid Batarfi usually gets it right, though not always.
Mohammed Al-Rasheed is one of the sharpest critics of what’s wrong in the KSA.
Raid Qusti is an acute observer of what’s going on with Saudis, particularly young Saudis.
And a whole slew of female reporters are all over the issue of women’s political and social rights.
There is hope.
Ash-Sharq Al-Awsat, the Arabic-language sister of Arab News, is also usually dead-on. As is Al-Watan, which has shown incredible guts in taking on the religious establishment–even in the face of death threats. Both of these, unfortunately, are in Arabic only.

Jane,
One day you will have your own paying column in a big newspaper somewhere. I will mourn your loss in the blogosphere when you abandon us for real journalism. I’ve seen that when you don’t hold anything back is when your work shines through the most.
Good job, and congratulations on another published article.

Jeremy, I couldn’t abandon the blogosphere, that’s where I get my voice and my info. Also thanks for the word about the “professional” vs “heartfelt” articles. I feel much more nervous about the heartfelt ones, so it is good to know they have more impact on the reader.
Dear Al Gore: Shouldn’t you be inventing something?

Qaradawi got a reputation as a “moderate” because he condemned the 9/11 attacks. Before, during and since, though, he’s been an avid anti-Semite and pretty damn radical in his pronouncements. I seriously doubt he could get a visa to visit the US for any purpose.
