An Unjust Peace

Filed under: General — by Jane Novak at 7:18 am on Friday, October 15, 2004

Amir Taheri:

Both Israel and the Palestinians still have to ask hard questions from themselves. The Palestinians must ask whether or not they are prepared to accept the “injustice” of Israel’s existence and, if yes, in what shape. The Israelis, for their part, must ask whether or not they can truly accept in their hearts the “injustice” of relinquishing their claim on parts of their “promised land,” including the “holy city” of Jerusalem.

It is only when both sides have accepted an “unjust” peace that they can close the circle of violence which, in one form or another, has engulfed them for half a century.

Taheri offers the best understanding of the issues at hand. I wish he were more widely syndicated in the US.

This analysis, if you want to call it that, is a bit out of date. Since 1974, and definitely since the 1988 Palestinian National Congress held in Tunisia, the representatives of the Palestinian people have expressed their wish to live peacefully side by side with their Israeli neighbours.
Unfortunately, their Israeli neighbours, backed by vast subsidies from the US taxpayer, have continued on their programme of Palestinian Genocide.
Israel is a violent racist illegal occupier, which has broken every law known; fails to recognise the Geneva Conventions; is starving a whole population to death and depriving it of essential humanitarian aid and services; has over 130 UN Resolutions to its credit which it won’t implement; has illegal WMD; has invaded and occupied every single one of its neighbours at some point; carries out assassinations throughout the world; threatens or attacks its neighbours constantly.
The circle of violence, as it is laughably called in this article, would be more accurately described as the subsidy of violence. The Palestinian Resistance Movement, despite its pitiful resources continues the struggle against the Pentagon, and its local nazi thugs in the IDF.
You’ve been brainwashed by exposure to western corporate media propaganda.

To call the Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem an ‘edifice’ is nothing but a racist slur. It happens to be the third most important mosque in Islam.

To say Yasser Arafat is the cause of the Second Intifada is a blatant lie. In order to subvert the prospect of peace breaking out, King Arik Sharon, deliberately provoked Palestinian society by his visit to the Al-Aqsa mosque armed, or protected by 3,000 troops. Many innocent Palestinain were murdered that terrible day.

Yasser Araft is currently under virtual house arrest in Ramallah, with prominent figures in Israel openly calling for his assassination. Mind you, some people say that Israel also has the US President under virtual house arrest in Washington.

Every decent human being in the world knows what the goal of Palestinian people is – to live in peace, free from the violent racist illegal occupation by the Pentagon and its subsidised leacl rabble of thugs, the IDF. Likewise people know exactly what the Israeli establishment are doing – the genocide of Palestine, entirely funded by the US taxpayer.

Apart from some nonsense about ‘metaphysics’ prace will come as soon as the subsidies are discontinued by the biggest sugar daay of the all, Daady Warbucks at the Pentagon. Israel lives way beyond its means and call accurately called the world’s biggest soup kitche. Without the US UN veto, that protects the international terrorism of Israel from the effects of international law, and the huge US subsidies peace could break out tomorrow.

As for ideas about the ‘Promised Land’ and the denigrating references in this article to one of the world’s great religion’s, this is no better than the Nazi ideas of ‘lebensraum’ for Hitler’s chosen people. The land was theirs to populate. The locals weren’t a problem.

One last point. I think it brilliant that the author finally gets round to using Nazi terminology ‘reprisals’. Indeed, as wee Adolf used to say, ‘better 100 innocents suffer than one guilty person escapes’. Collective punishment is a crime against humanity. Assassinating anyone without due lawful process, regardless of whether you want to stick the label ‘terrorist’ on them, is illegal. Collateral damage is illegal.

Tosh like this article survives, like any piece of violent racist propaganda, in moral and intellectual vacuum
