Jane Novak's blog about Yemen

Important Business At Hand

Enough about nuclear weapons, cabinet appointments, freedom of the press, and the insurgency in Iraq:

It’s Time to Vote in the Wizbang Weblog Awards.

This is the page that shows as one long list.

The interesting thing about the Wizbang awards is that they are an excercise by the blogging community itself in rating our own. They are sure to have a credibility unparalled to those contests run by magazines.

What a lot of work: thanks to the Wizbang crew and their volunteers who set this up for us.

OMG: upon further inspection, I find that I’ve been nominated in Best New Blog 2004 (?!) catagory. Quite a great honor but check out the competition- its so good, its funny:

Armies Of Liberation
My Vast Right Wing Conspiracy
Barking Moonbat Early Warning System
The Fourth Rail
The Diplomad
INDC Journal
Iowa Geek
Louisiana Conservative
My Pet Jawa
Kerry Spot
Six Meat Buffet
Stones Cry Out
Straight Bannana
The Media Drop
The Right Blog

Even I know that this blog is not better than those, at least the ones I know anyway. At least my sister will vote for me. And I don’t think that the alphabetical advantage I get (top of the list, Ma) is going to hold up against My brother Rusty, bring down the media titans Bill, the always impressive Preston or the extemely talented Beth. But very cool company for a week anyways.

Oh and Sis, you’re allowed to vote once a day untill December 12th.

I have to run out to the denitist but in persusing the list there’s some catagories where I don’t know anyone. And in most of the major catagories, you all know who’s who. So right now I’m just making one endorsement with all confidence in the selection: The Best Asian Blog is The Third World View, written by Rezwan, a great blogger in Bangladesh. Whether he wins or not, this fanstastic blog is a great window into the politics, culture, struggles and achievements of Bangladesh and many other developing nations and it also shows how similiar we all really are. UPdate The Third World View is also in the 3500 to 5000 catagory. So in this instance, I guess voting twice is legal.

Uhoh, John from Crossroads Arabia is up against Iraq the Model in the Middle East Catagory.

FYI: Lisa at Just a Girl designed my site, so if you not sure who to vote for in Best Blog Design…

Oh there he is, my other brother, Gordo The Cranky Neocon, in the best 1000-1750 catagory. (I would have thought he’s be in the humor catagory) but hey VOTE FOR GORDON! Its a vote for America, the VRWC and free ice cream.

Aakaakaak (no its not Jeremy) there’s Chris of Legal XXXin the same catagory as Gordo. You see, if Gordo was in Best Humor Blog, then I’d have less of a dilemma. But wait, then I’d have to pick between Gordo and Jeff at Beautiful Atrocities .
aakaakaaak! I know, if I was the 1000-1750 catagory-wait, that doesn’t work either…

I’m shocked!
By some divine intervention or catastrophic drunken error, Six Meat Buffet has made the cut in the 2004 Weblog Awards.

Jane, you got my vote. But it seems that we need to do some campaigning for you.

And about all the nice words you said about me.. I am just blushing. Thanks for your support.

Well done Jane,
yours is one of the few blogs, of a right-wing stripe, worth visting. Not because I agree with you and can turn up for cosy wee chats with other like-minded people. No, but because you are open to argument and discussion and are courteous enough to let others, at least, speak their mind.
After all, isn’t that what the US establishment says it holds most dear. You a very good example of these old-style US traditions.
One of my heroes (if you like) is Henry David Thoreau, and his ‘Walden’ is sublime. Well, talk about being in touch with the world around you and not taking any crap from authority. Brilliant! It was the very first comment I ever posted to your site, was the American Transcedentalist view that it isn’t the world that changes, it’s us. A missed opportunity for a discussion about US philosophical traditions.

Your compassion for the plight of Palestine and Palestinians is a good example of why it isn’t a waste of time and effort giving your blog a visit.

I shall vote anon, if eligible.

I’m touched, really. I started blogging to keep up on the news to write better but wound up making friends. Thank you all.
