My oped “The US Declaration of Dependence” published in The New Age, Bangladesh. (Also the Arab Times, Kuwait and Jersey GOP. )

Bangladesh is quite a impressive young country, only thirty years old. It is faced with natural disasters like the recent floods, economic challenges, and an evolving political system and civil society. There seems to be a palpable enthusiam to forge a brighter future for the country, although not quite a consensus on the best way.

The metric was clarified earlier at Ms. Rice’s hearing. ‘If a person cannot walk into the middle of the town square,’ she said, ‘and express his or her views without fear of arrest, imprisonment, and physical harm, then that person is living in a fear society.’

“it was named wrong, presented wrong, and just plain pushy”

- Yeah I ditto your remark

I think the challenge US faces is that it’s policies (”We will stand with you”) should not be misinterpreted, misunderstood by the wider world in future. But to achieve that US has to face the daunting task of understanding other cultures and people and breaking the ice specially with Muslim nations. Creating enemies will cause further deterioration.

Just as generalizing Muslims with some extremists is wrong, stereotyping every US efforts for freedom as pushy by many in the world is also wrong.

Time has come for reconciliation of relationships and together those elements of destruction can be sorted out and peace can be reestablished in conflicting regions.
