<strong>Why we fight</strong>
He that would make his own liberty secure, must guard even his
enemy from oppression; for if he violates this duty, he establishes
a precedent that will reach to himself.
–Thomas Paine

To Kurdistan Youngs: It must be awful to be faced with such choices, and regardless of which you choose, no one should judge you poorly. However, I do think Hammurabi and Iraq and Iraqis have it right. Whether you vote or not, the violence will continue, however, one way to ensure YOUR security in the future is to join your countrymen in and attempt to legitimately elect a government NOW. The only way forward is through the free expression of your people. Even in the West there is violence, but usually not of the political kind. The freedom to discuss important issues, without fear of reprisal or persecution always has a grand transformative effect on the populace engaging in, and enjoying that priveledge. The only way to ensure the eradication of hateful ideologies, is for ordinary citizens to educate each other on the virtues of civil discourse. An adherence and respect for lawful conduct will only happen after an Iraqi government is installed by the free will of the Iraqi public. This is a moment that may never come again. To participate now is to earn the respect of all free generations to come. You also have a great opportunity to shine a light of hope to people all over the Islamic world, and even beyond, that people of goodwill can, through determined effort, realize the aspirations of entire populations. After being forcibly silenced for so long, take this rare opportunity to BE HEARD! Ultimately, this is up to you and yours, the U.S. will not be voting in YOUR election. In the words of a prominent Western poet; "Seize the Day" Good luck to you and your great people, we in the west want to see Iraq regain it's rightful place in the good company of free nations!
