No more “-gates” to dub scandals

Filed under: General — by Jane Novak at 8:19 am on Tuesday, February 8, 2005

A commenter called WMD at the wonderful INDC suggests we change the lexicon of the blogsphere and stop attaching the suffix “-gate” to reference a scandal, that instead we use the suffix

“a-QUIDDICK”

Thus Eason-gate becomes Eason-a-quiddick.

I like it.

That’s Wicked Wicked
Jane’s sick of the “-gate” suffix used to anoint scandals and suggests an alternative….

I like it, but it might require an additional syllable to make the scandals more easily pronouncable. For instnace, “Oil For FoodQuiddic” is awkward, but if you toss in the the “uh”, represented by the letter A, then it flows nicely: “Oil For Food-a-Quiddic”.

Just a thought.

fairly brilliant. it’s long past time that cheater whom Harvard expelled half a century ago provides both tail and donkey. sadly, there’ll be another scandal to dub before you can say Easonquiddick.

Actually it’s a highly prized INDClanch that snowballed into a suprising Michelle-alanch. The poor readers though, today I’m just wandering around muttering incoherently about Bangldesh.

Why not just tag everything “X Pot Dome Scandal” as in “Tea Pot Dome Scandal” for those historically challenged out there. You could always go for the “X-Y-Z Affair” like things: “X-Y-Z WMD Affair”

The post in which I propose the word “bitch” be used instead of “gate” for all future political scandals (except Rick James)
Water-”bitch”, Iran-Contra-”bitch”, Dan Rather-”bitch”, Memo-”bitch”, Whitewater-”bitch”, Eason-”bitch”, etc…. Related. And more. Also….

Can Jane collect the $300K MacArthur Genius Award now? I think she could put it to good use.

It’s enough with the -gate suffix on scandals. This is a Democrat/liberal ploy to rub the right’s face in Watergate. It’s time to fight back. Jane of Armies of Liberation has suggested a replacement. It’s now - a-Quiddik. So…go read…

Kennedy-ized! fantasti-quiddick!

How about Clintonized - fantaasti-water (whitewater)

Maybe even Deanized - fantasti-nyeargh

Nope, none of them have the same ring as -quiddick.

Good work Jane!

Jane at the Armies of Liberation blog got tired of the scandal suffix ‘-gate’ and has created a new one…. ‘-quiddick’. I like it! Instead of ‘Memogate’, ‘Memoquiddick’. Yes, much better! Found @ INDC Journal…

I’ve been partial to -sky (as in Lewinsky)to memorialize when our first elected president was impeached. It’s a lot easy to say than a-quiddick. For example memosky, travelsky, Easonsky (or is that Davosky?)

A post in Armies of Liberation suggests replacing the “-gate” suffix used for scandals with “a-QUIDDICK”. I think this is an excellent suggestion. It seems especially appropriate for when the evidence indicates that somone has done something wrong ye…
