Jane Novak's blog about Yemen

President Ali Abdullah Saleh

Filed under: General, Presidency, Yemen — by Jane Novak at 7:30 am on Thursday, July 7, 2005

(This is a Guest Post, I cant even tell you who wrote it. But it certainly is an interesting point of view. I get the most interesting things in the email some days. But mostly very many sad things.)

Do you know Who Ali Abduallah Saleh is ?

In fact the Yemeni president , Ali Abduallah Saleh , is the worst president ever found on the face of the earth , also the biggest liar who has been lying to his citizens ( Yemenis) since he took power more than quarter of a century ago . I am sure he is the only leader who can’t speak his mother tongue properly , for example , it is absolutely hard for him to use relative pronouns correctly , even the names of some Yemeni cities are not pronounced accurately such as Sa’da , a small city , instead of saying Sa’da , he says Sata . what a shame ! a president unable to use his mother tongue properly , a president who has no certificate , no high school , no bachelor degree , master , doctorate , a president with nothing , so what can we expect from such mentality full of darkness ,ignorance , backwardness , literacy , in other words , can a literate and ignorant person lead or rule ten people , let alone a country ? Certainly , it is impossible .

Let’s be frank , the Yemeni president knows nothing about something called economy , politics , industry , trade , diplomacy , such terms never exist in his dictionary and it is more catastrophic to hear his EX mispronounce them in front of university professors , scholars and other highly qualified dignitaries .

Whether you believe it or not , I feel extremely shy whenever I see him speaking publicly , especially in Arab summits where millions of people can watch and listen to him , the only thing I do is I switch TV off and I think many others do the same . I feel shy , because he represents Yemen, represents us as Yemenis , I can’t really imagine how the worst person in Yemen represents us .

If there is a real democracy in Yemen , Ali Abduallah Saleh is not supposed to be a president , rather his real position is to be a car cleaner or a shoe sewer , even such positions need some skills Saleh lacks them . I suggested those two jobs for Saleh not because I want to humiliate him but simply because he doesn’t have any qualifications to handle a respected job .

Let’s now move to the other ugly and rotten side of the so-called Saleh who is believed to be one of the soldiers of Imam Yahya Hamid Aldeen before the 26th September Revolution, 1962 . Mr Saleh used to be the shepherd of the Imam . In fact , Saleh’s origin is unknown due to his mother’s seven marriages , we don’t know for sure whose father is and we don’t know anything about his family , we only know that he has a lot of half brothers , from his mother’s side . what a shame ! a president of Yemen has no origin , no descent , no prestige , no privilege etc , and still ruling this country . It is unbelievable to see Saleh talking about unity , revolution , reunification , solidarity and to know that he was against all these things , to know that he was one of the bodyguards of Imam Hameed Aldeen .It is really shocking news to know that before Saleh took power in 1978 , he was in Taiz city serving as a commander of security and with a title best known as TAEES( in Arabic meaning a male of a goat ) of officers and soldiers and his main job was smuggling drugs and wine . I know you may say that I want to defame him , but believe me that Saleh’s main job in Taiz City was almost known by a large number of Yemenis and still some people remembering him as they were drinking wine together . He was also notorious for providing safety and security for many smugglers of wine and drugs especially those who were working in the Red Sea and bringing in wine and drugs through Moka Port and part of his job was ,besides wine and drugs , in charge of a prostitution centre .

Before I forget , I would like to disclose something entirely important and confidential about Saleh , something may have been unknown to some Yemenis , but I am sure a great deal of Yemeni people , especially the elite , know it very well ; It is about the assassination of the tow former Yemeni presidents , Alhamdi and Alghashmi . It is believed that Saleh was directly involved in both assassinations , then he came to power exactly on July 17th , 1978 and since then he has been ruling Yemen .The first appearance of Saleh on TV , really shocked Yemenis and the world , a man with a face of a criminal and a murderer , with unkempt hair , long moustache , a man who was supposed to be put in prison , became a president of Yemen . What a shame !

Actually Saleh is the first man in Yemen , he possesses everything , the land , people , mountains , buildings ,more or less everything belongs to him . Moreover , he has absolute powers , responsible for everything . He is responsible for appointing a prime minister , ministers , mayors , general managers , university rectors , vice rectors , speaker of parliament , ambassadors , advisory council members .Furthermore , Saleh is Yemen and Yemen is Saleh . Strangely , Saleh has a unique quality which distinguishes him from the rest of all Arab and foreign leaders , it is telling lies , he is the biggest liar in the universe , he is not only lying to his citizens but also to the whole world . He says something on TV and does the opposite on the ground . He always claims that he will fight Israel by throwing it into the sea , at the same time he makes secret ties with Israelis . His second unique quality is his discrepancy , always declaring conflicting statements . Since he took power , Yemen has been deteriorating and getting from bad to worse in all aspects of life , no security , no stability ,no progress ,no prosperity , no law ,no order , at the same time there are all kinds of crimes , diseases , bribes , favoritism , nepotism , increasing cases of committing suicides among citizens , besides poverty , joblessness, homelessness , etc , not exaggerating to say that Yemen is no longer a country but rather a big forest where you can find the law of jungle . The recent visit made by the International World Bank President proved very strongly the miserable conditions that Yemen is going through ,he was quoted as saying ,Yemen is facing disasters because corruption is spreading very fast in all walks of life , adding that if the Yemeni regime does nothing and acts swiftly , no one will help you .Frankly speaking , I need many books to write about all Saleh’s evil life and I am sure I will not finish . As I mentioned before , Saleh possesses Yemen and he acts accordingly . As we all know that Saleh distributes top military , security , and intelligence positions to his sons , brothers , nephews , relatives etc , in other words , Yemen turns into monarchy . Ahmad ,the son of Saleh, is the commander of Special Forces and the strongest personality to succeed him , his nephew Tariq is the commander of the Central Security and Tariq’s brother is the commander of the National Security . Ali Mohsin Alahmar , Saleh’s half brother , is the commander of the North West Region and the second strongest personality to be the successor of Saleh and Ali Saleh Alahmar , Saleh’s brother , is the commander of the Air Forces .

Its pretty well documented that Saleh has an eighth grade education, an uncertain background, and a trail of bodies behind him, and that he was a low ranking military commander/thug when he became president in 1978. I’ll put up some biographical references for you when I have a chance.

I am Yemeni and I love my president and my country. To put it in a nutshell, I think that the one who wrote the article above against my great leader and my great country is not just unfair, but also handicapped! I hope that the Armies of Liberation doesn’t allow handicapped people to publish such extreme emotions.

Yemen is a wonderful country. Yemenis are a wonderful people. Unfortunately, the Yemeni people are without an economy, food, water, rights, security, free speech, an impartial judiciary and much more.

Oh my, I seem to have touched on a nerve. The kids in prison doesnt get a response but this post about the lovely Saleh seems to be unsettling some people. I’d better do some independent research to clarify the issue with documentation one way or the other.

I am just reading Jane, Jane, Jane… Who is Jane posting this BS from an unknown place?!

How did you know that Yemen is a dictatorship? How long have you lived in Yemen? Who told you that President Saleh was not elected. Most importantly, who told you that you are able to write opinions.

Instead of exposing how crippled your are, you should post appeals for funding the treating of your terminal illness.

Just an fyi for everyone on this website trying to find something positive to say about your “great” leader, is it me, or did Al-Jazeera just do a recent story about 90% of Yemen is in poverty? If anyone can do the research, check the poverty level of Yemen in the 1960’s and today. What a great leader we have.

Salaam.

i agree with this artical. for any yemenis reading this tell me what your so called president has actually done something good for your country. Even though he was elected president i do believe it was rigged for him to win. and by saying that yemen poverty has decreased since the 60’s i highly doubt that. if yemenis want a true president, they need to elect someone who knows about politics and how to stabalize the economy.

Nonetheless I have seen many losers, I never seen such loser and sick ,,the writer is wrong to feel shy as so to speak the legendary leader (Ali Saleh) speak, rather ,he should reread his article to find the real shame and foolish .

Uneducated ????
Remember, the greatest person in whole history of humanity (the prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him) is uneducated; this is not just our opinion (Muslims).

The writer gotta read the history again, particularly (the history of the legendary leaders that I believe Ali Abdullah Saleh is one of them).
However, I really feel sorry for that, I advise the writer to go to psychologist as soon as possible, indeed he reminds me of the insane people, who lost their minds. What hatred is this??How suppose the writer change and influence with such outrageous hatred? I believe you have no right to hate the devil in such way.

I hope the writer realize that ,such articles don’t make sense ,no logic ,such articles mean just one thing ,the writer could not control his misunderstanding that became sick of hatred that in turn have had him loser, sick and insane ,,this is all what we can understand from such shameful article

Jane
You are the last one talk about backgrounds, well
It is really sad u wrote or approved what is mentioned against our legendary leader (regarding background and descent, etc)
None touches the undisputed, legendary leader in any aspect of prestige, privilege, etc,

For me and millions of Yemenis we rank the purveyor of the hopes and aspirations of the Yemenis (the legendary leader) with leaders like Jamal Abdu Alnaser pertains huge achievements and radical progress (whatever the losers try to say, they can not stand up against the reality)

Anyhow, no call to continue praising the historic and distinguished charismatic leader, whatever I say, would not be sufficient and fair for the huge achievements this man has been leading.

But last ,,I want to say ,,u have no right Jane to talk about the backgrounds ,and origin, prestige ,,you are still American ,,the background of Americans unfortunately reminds us of the poor Indians ,(that Americans killed millions within one week and stole their land ), reminds us about Abu Garaib prison (was really dirty job)

So please Jane never mention such things about our beloved (Ali Saleh), you are hurting every Yemeni by approving that.

Jane you are doing a wonderful job in bringing the truth. Your info. is factual and objective. Statistics you present related to Yemen are accessable to ALL and may easily be verified by the IMF, World Bank, Transparency Int’l. and other international organizations.

As a patriotic Yemeni I salute you and urge you to continue your efforts. My hope is that more and more voices will sound the truth and the already diminishing fear barrier will completely crumble. Yemen has so much potential. Yemen belongs to ALL YEMENIS not only a minority of previlaged. Yemen must and will be rebuilt by a population of Yemeni men and women who are educated, skilled, open-minded, and ambitious.

Saleh and his regime represent the old and decaying. They have no ability nor desire to steer Yemen to a better tomorrow. Simply said, they are incompetent and corrupt.

Ali Abdullah Saleh’s background is known to all Yemenis, even those that defend him for obvious reasons.

I say to those who wish to defend Saleh personally, if you are true patriots, then discuss and defend his political record and achievements. He has none. He claims to have unified Yemen. In truth, it was Alhamdi who began secret discussions with the South during the mid 70s. Moreover, during the Imam’s time in the North, the real revolutionaries of the North were receiving training and weapons from the South.

What has he done in almost 30 years in office. His achievements are evident: illiteracy, inflation, unemployment, lack of civil society, inoperable public services, no proper health facilities….CORRUPTION in all government levels and facilities.

The truth is sometimes painful. But to all those that say Yemen today is prospering, I say for the sake of Yemen speak the truth and let’s do something about it.

Hi jane,

I personally thank you for your efforts on showing the truth of this dectator Ali abdullah kharib, the one who made yemen one of the ten poorest countries on the world, and those losers who are trying to defend him are from his gang. becuase most of yemeni as you know don’t know how to use the internet. Those losers are taking everyting from the country, and just caring about there personal needs. Not caring about other yemenis who are starving, and begging for money. kids selling marchendices on the streets of sanaa; insted of going for schools.

Wake up losers who are defending the biggest loser.

All of the information in this article is verified. Ali Abdullah Saleh is the most ignorant, arrogant and incompetent leader I have read/seen/heard about since the beginning of human civilization. For all of those who defend the President – you have been brainwashed to do this, believe me I know. So, snap out of it. The guy your defending is driving Yemen towards failure, you might not realize the weight of the meaning, failing state, but if you would, you would be cursing Ali and Co., 24/7.

Well, I think this article reveals a small part only of Saleh’s dark history and evil personality. Most (if not all) of the things discussed in the article are quite true and unquestionable facts.

My father was the second commander after one of the most respected and qualified military commanders during sixties and seventies. He knew a lot about Saleh during his service, and he kept telling me that Saleh is directly involved and responsible of Alhamdi’s death. Everyone in Yemen know this fact. Many know the very details of the set-up planned by Alghashmi (former president) and Saleh to take power.

This is only the tip of the iceberg…. every thing will be revealed soon
