Yemeni Police on Trial for Torture

Can I quote Rusty: Bullshit, bullshit, bullshit. Did I mention bullshit?

adnki and YO: Three members of the Yemeni security forces have gone on trial in absentia, for torturing a terror suspect to death in the south of the country. The two policemen and one security officer are reported to be evading arrest. They are accused of torturing Wadih Shibani to death at a police detention centre in September 1997, while forcing him to confess to being involved in bombings in the Aden area.

In its most recent annual report, the human rights organisation Amnesty International said they continued to receive reports of torture and ill-treatment in Yemen.

Me too. Theres a lot of cases more current than 1997 like today, yesterday ect.

Educational reform: AT: “In Yemen, religious institutes are not controlled by the Ministry of Education. Barely a year ago, the Yemeni government decided to merge these institutes with the country’s public education system. However, these institutes represent a fertile ground for breeding fundamentalists and partisan religious groups and this was clearly evident during Yemen’s parliamentary elections.”

Offtrack: Progress on these goals, which UN member states including Yemen pledged at the Millennium Summit in 2000 to achieve by the year 2015, has been very slow, according to IRIN, a United Nations news service. “Yemen is classified now as one of the off-track countries to achieve these goals, which means that we are facing a lot of challenges in all eight goals,” said Mutahar Al-Abasi, deputy minister of planning and international development. “Yemen is still far from achieving them.”

Gas: If I had a tin foil hat, I’d be talking about Haliburton instead of Total.
