President Saleh, the King of Spin, Speaks Again

Filed under: General, Yemen — by Jane Novak at 9:26 am on Saturday, November 5, 2005

I remember when His Excellency Ali Abdullah Salih gave a wonderful speech about democracy in the regional democracy center during the democracy conference, and excluded the journalists. That was right before the year of attacks on the opposition political parties (bombing their headquarters, denouncing them in the governmental media, kidnapping the leaders, holding them hostage, and occupying their headquarters and newspaper offices. )

So now President Salah is speaking about the scourge of terrorism:

BNA Sana’a, Nov. 3 (BNA) Yemeni President Ali Abdullah Saleh has that the Islam rejects all forms of extremism, which has no relations with principles of Islam and humanity. In a speech to the nation on the occasion of Eid Al-Fitr last night, President Saleh said that the Islam is religion of justice, mercy and tolerance, adding that the world now suffering from terrorism and its impacts on the peace, security and stability. “Terrorism is not religion or nationality”. It is international epidemic in all countries,” he said. He called on the international community to gather efforts to rout out this epidemic. President Saleh said that Yemen has adopted democracy early to realize justice, freedom and women’s participation, and to protect human rights. He called on all to strengthen the democratic reality in the country through benefiting from previous experiences in order to pass negatives and reach wonderful future. He affirmed that Yemen would go ahead in its democracy and protect press freedom. He indicated to the current situation in the Arab and international arenas, wishing the coming extraordinary Islamic summit in Saudi Arabia next December would establish strong foundations to change the current situation of the nation to reach hopes of the Islamic peoples.

Saleh was in Thailand yesterday and was quoted as saying “he understood the situation in the South, and that it had nothing to do with religion and that the problems were internal”.

Saleh chaired a June meeting of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference (OIC) which suggested the separatist’s aspirations in the south were “legitimate”.

So its the situation in the south of Thailand that has nothing to do with religion. I thought at first he was referring to the south of Yemen, which according to the governmental media is a bastion of infidels and seperatists.

Yeah, it has nothing to do with religion as long as the Thai government ends its bloody persecution of Muslims.

Dang, im confusing everyone lately. I was free associating about the global jihad and actually it was Indonesia: Men in black clothes and masks beheaded three teenage Christian girls on Saturday in eastern Indonesia as they walked to school near the Muslim town of Poso, officials said….

The three headless bodies of the high school students, dressed in brown uniforms, were left at the site of the attack. Three heads were found at separate locations two hours later by residents….

Although religious fighting has largely subsided, tension is still high in the region following bombings in the neighboring Christian town of Tentena which killed 22 people in May.

Security experts have said local Islamic radicals may have been responsible for the bombings in Tentena.

Security experts are always accusing those Islamists, instead of trying to understand their grievances.

I think a little therapy and some prozac could go a long way. That beheading thing is probably just the projection of some repressed toilet training trauma like the other mass murderers.
