Jane Novak's blog about Yemen

High Time to Free Yemen

Filed under: General — by Jane Novak at 6:50 pm on Friday, November 25, 2005

Thats the title of the current issue of Yemen Episodes, The President and the Donkey.

1. It is confirmed that internal relations between the little dictator of Yemen and his leading supporter, Sheik Abdullah Al-Ahmar, have reached a point of no return. Sheik Al-Ahmar, realizing at last the seriousness of the ill-intentions of Ali Abdullah Saleh, has decided to distance himself from close coordination with Saleh and his men. Further, Al-Ahmar took a swift move to bridge the gap which isolated him from other tribal chiefs and leading figures of political opposition parties. In addition, reports from Yemen suggest that the economic and social impact of the war in Saada which caused huge destruction and took the lives of thousands from both sides, continues to represent a constant threat and challenge to the fate of the one man show government prevailing in Yemen.

2. Sheik Al-Ahmar is at present occupied to restore his influence on his tribe of Hashid and continues to make efforts to entice other tribes to rally behind him. To this effect, the arrogance of the self-centered dictator is providing the opposition groups unlimited opportunity to accelerate demands for a peaceful hand-over of power to a fully elected government. The public announcement made by President Saleh a short time ago, stating that he will not stand as a presidential candidate next year, is proper grounds for the opposition groups in Yemen to accelerate pressure within and outside Yemen to disqualify the dictator’s candidacy.

3. The regime is increasingly isolated in its domestic environment, surrounding regional states, its bilateral relations with international financial agencies, and leading democracies have equally worsened. Consequently, a change in the system of government in Yemen is not merely a ray of hope, but is becoming inevitable.

4. It is evident that the visit of the dictator to DC is a total failure.

Mohammed, what are you saying, the commenters shouldn’t make sarcastic remarks about Saleh or that Yemen Episodes website isn’t serious? The remarks from the commenters are a reflection of support for the Yemeni people.

Yes, even we hate Saleh. but Do not use those rancor words. It is inequity to said that is a good site to take from. It is unknown publisher. i did not respect any uncountable writing or situation. We are suffering everything here and those just copy and paste the articles and saying they are oppose.
who is Yemen Kifaia. Do You know who is the publisher of it. I think Yes via e-mail because they also published one of your articles.
So you may know one of them Via e-mail not more, and you do not know who is in real.
It is just playing.
In Egypt kefaiah (enough)is a movement led the people to protest on the strets. and go to the prison and make a good movements for real democracy. but our tribes (they are tribes also) take the way of the tribs to oppose.
They are not accountable.
Why they did not go to poorest people and told them the fact.
No problem, go to the prison. It is a honore. where they was on the protest on 20,21 July.
They were at their home and buseness while the poor people killed on the streets, because of they did not found any one to led them.

Mohammed, a lot of people published my articles. Once its on the web, its open and I find them many places.

I agree with you that during the riots when the people were protesting more than just the rate increases, there was no leader who stepped forward to give words to the fustration, to bring the voice of the people to the nation and the world.

That was a very horrific situation in that many people died and not much changed. Thousands went to prison and no one stepped forward to defend them. I remember that all over the country, people stood together against the tanks and some of the opposition sided with the government in talking against them. I was very angry about that.

Also I agree with you that the poorest people are the ones who need the voice and someone with them the most. There should be a way for them to have their voice and not go to prison or have violence. The elected representatives are supposed to be their voice and work on their behalf, but thats not working well we can say.

Ok with this website, Yemen Episodes, the problem you have with it is that the author is anonymous? And not actually standing with the people but hiding behind his website without speaking his name? And therefore you don’t trust him or her? And their committment to the people. Thats fair enough.

Do you know this place http://www.blogger.com Its a free website service. Anyone can have their own website for free and do it their own way. Me personally, sometimes I feel like my head is going to explode. So its very nice when people come by and cheer me up. I appreciate my visitors very much. I dont censor any one, not even the regime people who come here and curse me and call me bad names and insults. And whether you realize it or not, everyone else is trying to be polite. This website is my filing cabinet for my research and there many terrible stories and injustices in Yemen. And theres a lot of American people who help me and tens and tens of American websites carrying the story of Yemen from here. You may not get the American way of talking, and thats OK. But anyone who cares is welcome.
