Just noticed an article in the press that Pres Saleh stated that the US was going to occupy Aden after the Cole bombing and his personal intervention saved the day. He also stated that he was in Aden at the time just by chance. What timing on his part.

In Jan 2004, the Yemen govt reportedly broke off negotiations with the AQ cells in Yemen. And according to press reports, AQ stated that they would stage attacks. They never materialized as to the extent they stated they would. Makes one wonder what the payoff was.
