Dictators and Terrorists: a congruent agenda. Argentina Indy Media:

The same week, at a support rally for Saddam Hussein held near Nablus, ranting participants pledged to “kill every American.” On the 9th of August, Sanaa Republic of Yemen Television broadcast a sermon live from the Grand Mosque in Sanaa. Shaykh Akram Abd-al-Razzaq al-Ruqayhi prayed to Allah, “O God, destroy the Jews€|; O God, destroy the Christians€|.freeze the blood in their veins.” On the same day, in Saudi Arabia, Saudi TV carried a different sermon – this time from Shaykh Usamah Abdallah Khayyat. Khayyat prayed, “O God, help the mujahidin in Palestine, Kashmir and Chechyna. O God, destroy the tyrant Jews.” In Quatar, the official TV station carries yet another sermon, delivered live from the Umar Bin-al-Kattab Mosque in Doha. Shaykh Anwar al-Badawi prayed to his God, “Islam does not know terrorism€|.it encourages martyrdom against aggressors€|O God, destroy the Jews; O God, pour out your anger on them. O God, destroy the usurper Jews and the vile Christians.”

My church often prays for the people of the Middle East, but its more along the lines of an end to violence and human suffering. I think in the US publically calling for the death of other people is considered hate speech and its against the law. So Houthi outside the mosque chanting “Death to America” is not acceptable but the Shaykh inside the mosque gets a live feed on national TV. Otay. I guess only officially approved people are allowed to push that big button. Like when Saleh tells the people that the US was going to invade after the Cole. (Meanwhile the only thing that was actually discussed in Congress after the Cole was possibly cutting some aid packages to encourage greater cooperation with the investigation. But that idea was quickly rejected when General Zinni vouched for President Saleh’s wholehearted sincerity.)

As a Moslem, I disagree with these vile and deplorable prayers. Religion should not be used as an instrument to brain-wash and influence the thinking of the masses. Let all people be accountable for their actions, and may God be the judge of ALL.

Although I don’t agree with Israeli occupation of Arab land, nor do I agree with several US policies especially towards the Middle-East, it doesn’t mean I become a bigot and human hater. I know many of my views are shared by Americans and Israelis alike, regardless of religion.

That said, Ali Abdullah Saleh continues to play on the polarity of the Yemeni and the regional political spectrum. Saleh has utilized ex-Afghan Mujahidin, Islah party right-wing factions, and now ‘Houthis’ to fight his war against the socialist South in ‘94.

He as well as his brother, Ali Mohsen, have supported and encouraged Houthis to arm and entrench themselves.

Today Saleh accuses the Houthis of being terrorists and seperatists. He plays to Western and US fears that Houthis are Islamist militant fundamentalists. As for the Arab Gulf States, Saleh claims they are an extension of Iranian Shiite influence.

Saleh’s domestic propaganda works to portray him as a pro-Arab nationalist. In contrast, propaganda geared towards the West, aims at portraying Saleh as a visionary, democratic, liberal leader.

Saleh intertwining and contradictory political stances are his means of staying afloat and surviving.

In close, it is befitting to quote the late American president, Reagan, ‘You can run but you can’t hide.’

You nailed it. Thats what I meant by the wall- that they try to put between the people to keep them apart. And the two or six faces of Saleh is a very good description of how he keeps his place.

Did you read the interview in the Yemen Times where Yayha said they asked them to go to Iraq to fight.

The regime is marginalizing and targeting all the people and groups and splitting them up.

SORRY BROTHER MOHAMMED ALDUBIE BUT I THINK YOU ARE MISTAKEN ALHOUTH NEVER WAS USED AS A TOLL BY SALEH TO FIGHT OUR BROTHERS IN THE SOUTH OR ANY ONE ELSE IN FACT THE ARMY ATTACKED ALHOUTHI AND DESTROYED HIS HOUSE IN 1994 BECAUSE HE OPPOSED THE WAR AS FOR WEAPON I THINK YOU THAT IN YEMEN WE HAVE OPEN MARKIT FOR ALL KIND OF ARMS
THIS WAR IS WAGED ON THE HOUTHIS BECAUSE THEY REFUSED TO BE AS A TOOL IN THE HANDS OF SALEH

Jane, I think you need to ask those shaikhs why they are praying in such dialogue. You are mature person and you don’t want others to tell you what is wrong and what is right.

Jane, There is an old say saying “see in two eyes and hear with two ears” and ask your self why god created for us two eyes and two ears.

US evade Afghanistan on 2001 and did the killing every where then they invade IRAQ on 2003 and they killed thousands of Iraqi innocent with no reason at all except they said IRAQ has mass destruction weapons then this lie did not work and said terrorist are in IRAQ. I don’t know how USA citizens believe such jokes. US army is killing children’s in IRAQ, Afghanistan and before that in JAPAN Nagasaki and Hiroshima and still US citizen saying why Muslims pray against us?

Thanks to BUSH who made the entire world not only Muslims hate USA. Even Europe the don’t like US even they show smile in face.

Do you want the Muslims after all the killing they faced by US troops to say GOD save America?

Hi alhareth.

Sami, if I was intimidated by anti-Americanism I wouldn’t have started writing for the Middle East papers since 2002. But since that time I have come to understand it better but only because I was able to listen to people who were talking facts and not about killing me. The point I was making with this post is that the dictators use whatever legitimate grievences there are and inflame them to build a wall that protects them and also keeps the other people from understanding. The media censorship also is a wall between the regular people that keeps them apart. The people in the West hear only the dictators say everything is lovely and you need us to protect you from the terrorists. They dont hear from the regular people because of the censorship. The thing that does come through is this advocacy of more death and destruction, which is not a universal feeling, but it is kind of a conversation stopper. -ie, counter productive in terms of dialog when there really is a lot to say or hear.
