Or do they just report them killed like they did once before. The state dept report, i think its 2004 Patterns of Terrorism notes one instance when the regime reported one AQ killed in a
shoot out but when he turned up again later, they admitted they let him go when they had him.

The question remains: how can twenty three convicts escape from one of the most secure prisons in Yemen, operated by the political security apparatus?

A tunnel of that length goes unnoticed! A decoy would best describe it.

This reminds me of one of Steve Mcqueen’s best movies, ‘The Great Escape’.

Now do all the fugitives get caught or do any get killed in this real-life saga?

Then there's this rumor that they smuggled them out to give them to the US in a third country. But the tunnel seems a bit extreme for that.

I never even considered that but its an interesting thought. Especially since it involves the Cole. And that Hassani said in a press conference that Saleh knew about the Cole in advance.

A very credible scenario, which many informed sources accept, is the fact that these prisoners were assassinated by Saleh’s squad.

It is known that Saleh entertained these Qaeda figures to win his war over the South Yemen. He had funded and protected them and used them to carry out his political dirty work.

Today, it was time to eliminate any links between him and these people. They would have definately implicated him and exposed his involvement with them.

Curretnly Im just annoyed that the US TV never mentions Yemen except when its about al-Qaeda. They are really stupid, the media.

ALso, 13 of them were involved in the USS cole attack, including the mastermind (Jamal Albadawi) who had previuosly escaped in 2003, but was caught after the govt paid some local tribes for his capture.

Al-Qaeda Stickes again
the tunnel was over 300 meters long, and would’ve taken at least a month to complete, the tunnel starts from the women’s mosque(attached to main Awqaf mosque) near security headquarters and it is suspected that female members of Al-Qaeda arranged for the operation, there are usually minimum four soliders (guards) guardingat the the three entries of the mosque 24/7, and news coming from female residents in the neighborehood that there were several ladies who “spent too much time praying” there.
also, when they left (after friday prayer yesterday) it is suspected that they were disguised as women.
Of course, all of this is Rumers, but may lead to something.
i hope yemeni authorities do not ignore the leads as always

Perphaps we should give them logistics on how to create and run world-class prisons such as Guantanamo Bay and Abu Ghraib.
