Terror Financing in Yemen
Yemen is in the forefront of those joining international efforts in fighting terrorism, according to the Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Interior Dr. Rashad al-Alimi. However, while he admitted that the funding of terrorism in Yemen was a real problem, he claimed that all terrorist acts that took place in Yemen were funded from abroad. Yemen has suffered much because of them, Dr. Al-Alaimi added. (Does this refer to the Houthis and Iran or AQ and funds from SA?)
Speaking at a conference in Sana’a on tackling terrorist funding, organized by UN Regional Bureau for Middle East and South Africa in cooperation with the Yemeni government, Al-Alimi said that Yemen would take effective measures to make sure the source of terrorists funding were blocked and force supporters to abide by UN decisions. (They are finally going to freeze all the Yemeni banks accounts ID’d by the UN as AQ or Taliban affiliated?)
“The political leadership gave the issue of fighting terror and the resources that fund it priority in its programs,” Al-Alimi said in a speech on Monday, according to Saba news. (making nice nice with Bush after the letter issue?)
Dr.Al-Alaimi said that Yemen’s close international cooperation following the UN decisions regarding terrorism and its funding had resulted in positive results, reflected by the reduction of terrorists acts in Yemen, he claimed. (what about the weapons trafficking, the UN has noted the regimes non-complience with international protocals?)
The minister said that Yemen was ahead in the implementation of all UN decisions, as before the New York attacks of September 11 2001 Yemen had already suffered from several terrorist acts, which had greatly affected its economy and reduced its chances of tourism and investment. The minister added that Yemen needed measures not just at a local level, but also on a wider regional and international level too. Action must be taken against those organizations falsely raising cash for terrorist acts, he said. (So there’s no worries about any businesses in Yemen laundering money or diverting funds?)
Well, if its true its good. Time will tell.
