Saudis hand over last post, Arab News:
SANAA, 17 May 2006 — Saudi Arabia yesterday handed over to Yemen the last border outpost designated as Yemeni territory by a 2000 border agreement that ended a long-standing dispute between the two countries.
The handover involved the Al-Tewal border crossing on the Kingdom’s southwestern border and buildings of border guard and customs centers in their vicinities, which were designated Yemeni territory under the historical border treaty signed in Jeddah on June 12, 2000. The treaty ended a 66-year-old dispute between the Kingdom and Yemen over their unmarked border, including handing over territory to each other as the border demarcation was completed.
In the handover ceremony at the Al-Tewal crossing, around 440 km northwest of the Yemeni capital Sanaa, Saudi and Yemeni security and border officials signed the turnover documents before Saudi and Yemeni soldiers lowered the Saudi flag at the site and hoisted the Yemeni flag, Saba news agency said.
