Business Association Praises Saleh, Trashes Opposition, Claims Neutrality
NY:
As Yemen approaches the first competitive presidential elections, a group of Yemeni businessmen and journalists have recently formed what they called “Future Trend” that they said would try to gather voices in favor of sustainable development, peaceful succession, Yemen without corruption and revenge.
In a press conference to announce the “trend”, its spokesman Adel al-Shuja’a said they do not represent a party and have not power prospective.
“The trend was a result of the current political crisis that is getting worse day after day due to lack of cultural forecasting,” said al-Shuja’a.
He described the press statements by the ruling party and opposition as “discordant”.
“Such statements make you feel you live with two different nations”, said al-Shuja’a.
He said the trend would focus on points that all political elites agree on, criticizing the differences between political parties which hamper moves toward better future.
He confirmed the trend “agrees with all good political elites that call for social peace in the country.
“Who will be with us, we will be with him”, he said, denying that the trend is against the opposition that he said “moves according to aspirations, not capacities”.
When a journalist said “you work for the president”, member of the Preparatory Committee in the “Future Trend”, Mohsin al-Amoudi, replied that the trend bargains on the president Saleh because he was elected by people.
The journalist Taher Shamsan, member of the trend, said the trend was formed at the convenient time and that it would remain open for all. He denied they work in favor of president Saleh.
“President Saleh is free of ideology and has ability to lead the country peacefully and to understand everything through figures. We bargain on Yemeni people through president Saleh who is the soul of people”, said Shamsan.
Meanwhile, the “Future Trend” has a statement which affirmed that “it is a common ground and open for all who want to forget the past conflicts and to use all capacities to face future challenges”.
The statement, which claimed the trend welcomes any leadership that can lead the country to better future, continued praising president Saleh as “the only leader who can break challenges and make aspirations”.
The “Future Trend” is chaired by Ahmad al-Sufi, chairman of the Democratic Institute, and including the businessmen Mohammad Abdu Saeed, Naser Shaef ,
Alawi Hamid and Mohsein and the journalists Adel al-Shuja’a, Taher Shamsan and Omer Ba Matraf.
