Sheik al-Ahmar Supports Saleh
Sheik Al-Ahmar expects his son Hussein, a GPC member, to support his party and calls him childish for not doing so, but al-Ahmar is the head of Islah which is supporting Bin Shamlan, and he is supporting Saleh.
So with al-Zindani and al-Ahmar both openly endorsing Saleh, its seems the leadership of Islah is nearly as coopted as it was in the 1998 election. Nice show though. News Yemen
The president of the Islamic Islah party, the biggest party in the Joint Meeting Parties, Sheikh Abdullah Bin Hussein al-Ahmar, announced from his residence in Saudi Arabia that he would vote for the candidate of the ruling General People’s Congress party.
Al-Ahmar, whose party work together with other parties in JMPs for mobilizing votes for the JMPs candidate Faisal Bin Shamlan, said in an interview published by the official website 26Sep.net that Ali Abdullah Saleh is his choice. “This was my stand form the beginning and it will not be changed, if God will,” said al-Ahmar.
But he said “if democracy becomes reality, it will be good for Yemeni people”.
Sheikh al-Ahmar, who has constantly confirmed for the JMPs leaders that he agrees with their political stance, differentiated between his personal position and the position of JMPs toward the upcoming presidential elections.
Commenting on the position of his son, Hamid al-Ahmar, who stated before that his father would come back form Saudi Arabia to crown Bin Shamlan as the president of Yemen, al-Ahmar described Hamid’s statement as “known partisan stand and a statement for election propaganda”, saying that most of the election campaigns are untrue.
The statement of sheikh al-Ahmar was faxed to the www.26Sep.net on Thursday responding to a question by the web site about the position of his sons, Hamid and Hussein, against the ruling GPC. Al-Ahmar said the stances of his sons are not his and they do not express his opinion. “I was surprised for their statements like others,” said al-Ahmar.
Hamid al-Ahmar said in an interview to Annas newspaper that his position toward the candidate of the Joint Meeting Parties Faisal Bin Shamlan and against the GPC is the position of his father.
Al-Ahmar, who denied that, denied also accusations by leaders in the GPC that some foreign powers affect the position of Hamid and Hussein al-Ahmar. “This is not true, Hamid’s stance is an expected stand to support his party…but Hussein is member of the GPC, so his stand is childish”, said al-Ahmar, “Any way I refuse their position which are not in harmony with my position.”
Sheikh al-Ahmar said the statements of his sons and leaders in the opposition parties are “untrue”. “It is known that many achievements have been accomplished under the leadership of President Ali Abdullah Saleh and nobody can ignore that,” said al-Ahmar.
