Yemen to use nuclear energy to generate power
SANA’A, Dec.13 (Saba)-Mustafa Bahran, head of the National Committee for Nuclear Energy (NCNE) and scientific advisor of president
declared onWednesday that Yemen would carry out an electricity project by using nuclear energy by beginning of 2007.

He affirmed, in a scientific lecture, that the proper and sole solutionto skip the crisis of electrical energy in Yemen is via the
manipulation of nuclear energy.

He pointed out that the estimated result of this move would multiply electricity production to five times in the upcoming five years
compared to today’s production.

Future challenges which the world in general, and Yemen in particular, would encounter lay on the exhaustion of drilling energy process and thereis no way to cover this current incapacity except by using nuclear energy for peaceful purposes and also to provide energy for the coming generations, Bahran said.

He said that that the committee is presently executing a number of projects by means of nuclear energy, specifically in the fields of
medicine, agriculture and fertilizing irrigation.

Bahran made it clear that the committee initiated some offers with a number of companies to set up a nuclear station to in Yemen so that the government can make use of it in terms of producing electricity and, later on, desalination.
