Sanaa Local Council Kills Street Vendor: NGO

It’s a fricking zoo, a brutal, deadly zoo. Twenty year old street vendor tortured to death in prison by security forces for failing to pay alms to the local council, NGO claims.

AS: The Democracy School, a local NGO, denounces killing the citizen Mohammad Alshoaibi inside a prison related to Sana’a Local Councils.

It demanded in a statement the official authorities to end chasing street vendors and sellers whereas the economic situation in the country entails protecting and encouraging them to go on their works in order not to join increasing unemployment, violence or terrorism in the state.

It considered the event as evidence of prevailing corruption and crimes, stressing on the importance of closing the prisons of local councils, apply laws and hold all perpetrators accountable.

For its part, Alshoabi’s family accused the local councils officials of killing their son Tuesday inside one of their prison after he was tortured .

Yahya Alshoabi, the victim brother said that some soldiers and officials of Sana’a Local Councils kidnapped his brother form his work, justifying that he didn’t pay overdue balances for the government.

He confirmed that they had former disputes with his brother, so they assaulted him, detailing that ,his brother ,20 years , died during detention and that he knew the names of those who perpetrated the crime ,indicating that the officials broke down lights and prevent the family of meeting its son in the office and that the crime was lately revealed Monday morning .

He demanded the Interior Minister and the Prosecutor to immediately investigate the crime and bring all perpetrators to justice, appealing at the same time all human rights organizations and reporters to stand by them in order to bring them justice.

Meanwhile, the director of Alsafia District, Abdullah Mohram ruled out that Alshoaibi died while he was in the district office, pointing out that he died in Sana’a General Unit for works.

For its part, Hood Organization demanded the prosecutor and the Interior Minister to immediately investigate the event .
