Yemen to Censor News Websites and Blogs
They just make it up as they go along.
As for press websites the (government) sources clarified that licensing them requires similar dealings so that their owners are fully responsible for what is published on that sites. It is not proper in any country that a press website belonging to a certain newspaper to be established without notifying the concerned authorities about the editor in chief of that website, its cadre and site and the like of statements required by the law.
Regarding television information broadcasting the source said it has its special law regarding the investment of added service or the general transmission, adding that the ministry of communications and information technology has the right to stop any media transmission surprising the citizen on his phone without obtaining a license for that otherwise it will become chaotic situation. The companies established to offer telephone services will change to information and political institutions.
The source also affirmed that the freedom of developing personal sites is permitted and it is the right of their owners but when that is associated with aggression on others freedoms and interference in their affairs then there must through a system protecting all. He elaborated that news websites have not followed the right course and practices violation of valid laws. They promoted for lies against the public interest and assailed those who are defending the homeland and its stability through confronting the gangs of sabotage and terror in some areas of Saada governorate.
The source said the ministry of information is looking forward to holding a plenary meting with the Yemeni Journalists Syndicate to discuss these matters and to reach to convictions in favour of freedom of the press and in interest of the profession.
