Protest in Al-Habeleen, Yemen

Filed under: Civil Unrest, South Yemen, Yemen — by Jane Novak at 9:00 am on Sunday, October 14, 2007

(Radfan, Lahjj: Yesterday, Yemeni security forces opened fire on citizens who were sitting on the stage pictured below. Three people were killed and ten injured. However, thousands of protesters returned to the scene today and held their sit-in as planned, demonstrating a remarkable amount of courage and commitment.)

After the bloody day in Radfan district,
The military retired stage a huge protest in al-Habilain

Al-Habilain, a town in the Radfan district of Lahj, this morning witnessed a big protest on 44th anniversary of 14 October revolution 1962.

The protest, arranged by the military retirees association in Radfan district, was attended thousands of people from all southern governorates in spite of the government check points and obstacles along the road between Aden and Lahj.

The protest comes after a bloody day when security forces massacred four persons. The four were killed when security forces attempted to take over the stage of planned celebration in the center of al-Habelain town.

The regime seeks after 14 persons

Trusted sources Radfan district said that the military forces are seeking 14 persons wanted by the regime. The list includes Naser Saleh Abdulqawi (member of M.C.R.A), Ali Monassar (Secretary of Y.S.P. in Aden governorate), Ali Hasan Albishi, the second man in M.C.A.R. after Naser al-Noba who is currently jailed and in extremely poor health. Al-Noba was arrested in September after organizing the former southern military personnel to launch public protests in a quest for their long denied rights. Amnesty International has urged the Yemeni regime to allow al-Noba to be hospitalized.

Empty Quartery notes the absurd official media spin: The 26 September headline reads: “Three Outlaws killed and Nine others Punished in Habilayn: Leaders Wishing to Remember Crisis of 1994 Behind Events in Habilayn, al Dhala and Aden and Involved in Foreign Agenda”.

US should open a channel of talks to interfere with the ice ball in the south. ‎Otherwise, terrorist in IRAQ will jump to south if a gap is occurred. Saudi and US ‎most move to secure a peaceful transition to the voice of the people and the choice for ‎liberty. ‎

Sultan, the US should do a lot of things, the first one is live the way they talk. Freedom and equal rights and self rule are all things that every human deserves. The US can’t fix the whole world but still they could stand with the people who are standing for freedom a little better.

There’s lots of terror activity already in certain neighborhoods in Aden and in the southern governates. Its like a production line. They are teen agers that get brainwashed and the powerful people set it up and handle everything from training to travel and everything in between. Somehow that doesn’t draw a lot of condemenation either.

But I agree with you, things could become much much worse and the US should be proactive while there is time to make a good impact.

I didnt know there was a protest in the UK. My brother in law told me he read in the newspaper that there is one scheduled for New York at the UN. Its good when people speak out in the free countries.

To tell you the truth the southern people are much more civilized than others. I am not ‎saying because I am from them. But you can ask the gulf people about us and they ‎will tell whom we are and how full respect we have from others. Hadramout people ‎are striving to live on their land at last in peace instead of jumping all over the world. ‎We do not want the oil, because our brains are our gold and our peaceful culture is our ‎asset. We are sure that Malaysian state will repeat itself here in the south and ‎particularly in Hadramout state. ‎

We have the business men living in Saudi and the gulf are waiting for a green light to ‎come in and build the country. I am sure of that and I know my people very well. We ‎look for the best in every thing and we respect others lines of cultures and religions ‎and we do not have a radicals that turns to be a bomb for the powerful people. ‎

We are in short different and peaceful. We hope to have the chance to build our ‎country by our own with no occupation nor political conflicts with neighbors. If it is ‎in our hand, We will cancel the army and the stupid spending of arm forces and just ‎devote the money for the reconstruction, public security, education and health ‎programs‏. ‏

Hope things go with the best of my people
