Ten days before announcing the new ministerial reshuffle, Minister of Expatriates Affairs Saleh Sumi’ee resigned from his post in protest against the constant demands by the head of investigation sector at the Anti-corruption committee to pay the due sums for the Yemeni community schools in the Horn of Africa.

Sumi’ee hinted that the head of the education center for community schools Abdul Bari Al-Dhamari embezzled YR 45 million over the years 1998 to 2002 at the leniency of Finance and Expatriates’ Affairs ministries.

In his resignation letter addressed to President Saleh, Sumi’ee indicated that the Central Organization for Control and Auditing detected such a corruption and demanded Al-Dhamari to pay back the sums he received in the past.

He added that Al-Dhamari was fired from Ethiopia in 1998; however, he continued receiving the sums provided for community schools over the four years.

Sumi’ee maintained that the Anti-corruption Committee demanded him to pay community school money for the years 2005-2008, stressing that he could not pay them the sums.

He also requested Saleh to accept his resignation as long as the investigation sector is demanding him to pay the sums and continue working with Al-Dhamari, stressing the latter should be held onto account for his direct involvement with embezzling the public money.
