The visiting US assistant defense secretary Michael Vickers expressed the satisfaction of the US administration over Yemen’s continuous efforts to counter terrorism.

In a meeting with commander of Republican Guards and Special Forces Ahmad Ali Abdullah Saleh, Vickers hailed Yemen’s contribution to the region’s security and stability and its security coordination with neighboring Gulf States.

The US official also renewed his country’s willingness to provide Yemen with necessary support to encounter terrorists.

The US embassy in Sana’a said Vickers applauded recent Government of Yemen operations which “neutralized dangerous terrorist threats in Yemen.”

Vickers discussed U.S. support for the return of Yemeni nationals detained in Guantanamo, and ongoing cooperation with the Yemeni Government to establish a facility to receive these individuals, said the embassy on its website.

He also noted the need for the adoption of effective counterterrorism legislation in Yemen, as well as other measures to deny safe-haven in Yemen for international terrorists, it said.
