The Bahrain Youth Society for Human Rights expresses its deep concern regarding the information received from the families of detainees in the case of burning the Pakistani immigrant Sheikh Mohammed Riyadh, where the Public Prosecution’s statements indicated that in March 2009 a group of youth from Ma’ameer village encountered a car – Pick Up type – which was driven by the deceased in Ma’ameer area, where a group of masked men encountered him and started throwing Molotov cocktails, the car was damaged and this led to him getting burnt and dieing after a while of being transferred to the government hospital. The Public Prosecution accused ten people from Ma’ameer village with (premeditated murder, burning private property and exposing people to danger, and possession of explosive devices).
The BYSHR and during the observation and documentation of the detainees’ situations in the case and listening to the families’ statements, it was clear that the National Security Apparatuses had used brutal torture against the detainees in aim of extracting forced confessions from them, where the detainees were exposed to:
Beating on different parts of the body.
Prohibiting them from performing religious rites.
Solitary confinement.
Prohibiting them from using the restroom or taking a bath.
Prohibiting them from relaxing or sleeping.
Electric shocks.
Putting a flammable substance on the face.
Using the ‘Falaqa’: “Hanging the feet upside down to the roof of the room”.
Threatening them to abuse their families’ dignity.All detainees suffer from severe separated injuries – attached photos of some of the detainees after torture – in the face, hands and feet in additional to the bad psychological state due to using brutal torture.
The BYSHR documented all the torture cases that the detainees were exposed to during their detention. An urgent request has been sent to the UN Special Rapporteur on Torture to intervene immediately to investigate the torture that the detainees of Ma’ameer village faced.
The BYSHR had previously filed complaints to the UN Special Rapporteurs on Arbitrary Arrest and Torture in the case of killing the Pakistani policeman in Karzakan area. On 30 May 2008, the Special Rapporteur on Torture, the Special Rapporteur on the Independence of Judges and Lawyers, the Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Expression, the Working Group of Arbitrary Detention and the Special Rapporteur on the situation of Human Rights Defenders all sent a letter to the Bahraini government inquiring them about the subject of the complaint. On 14 August 2008, the Bahraini government responded as following:“The Bahraini government made use of the evidence it has such as photos, testimonies and confessions and this evidence led to reaching the accused, and the accused are not human rights activists, and the Public Prosecution has not received any complaint on them being exposed to torture, and that the forensic physician had examined them and the examination did not result in the appearance of torture effects, and that the actions committed by the accused are not within the freedom of opinion and expression.” (Attached is the response of the Bahraini government).
The Bahrain Society for Human Rights calls for:
The immediate and unconditional release of the detainees.
Questioning the Security Apparatuses that practiced the torture.
Forming an investigation committee in the death of the Pakistani immigrant with the participation of human rights institutions.

تعرب جمعية شباب البحرين لحقوق الإنسان عن قلقها الشديد حول المعلومات التي حصلت عليها من أهالي المعتقلين في قضية حرق الوافد الباكستاني السيد شيخ محمد رياض ، حيث اشارت تصريحات النيابة العامة بأن في مارس 2009 قامت مجموعة من الشباب من قرية المعامير بالتعرض لسيارة من نوع ” بيك آب ” كان يقودها المتوفي في المنطقة – المعامير – حيث اعترضه ملثمين و قاموا بإلقاء الزجاجات الحارقة – الملتوف – و قد تم إصبة سيارته بأضرار مما ادى الى أحتراقه و وفاته بعد مدة من نقله الى المستشفى الحكومي ، و قد أتهمت النيابة العامة عشرة أفراد من قرية المعامير ( القتل العمد مع سبق الإصرار و الترصد ، حرق ممتلكات خاصة و تعريض الناس للخطر ، و حيازة عبوات حارقة ) .
ان جمعية شباب حقوق الإنسان و خلال رصد و توثيق حالات المعتقلين في القضية و الاستماع لأقوال الأهالي ، تبين لها بأن جهاز الامن الوطني قد استخدم التعذيب القاسي مع المعتقلين بغرض نزع الأعترافات منهم بشكل قسري ، و حيث تعرض المعتقلين الى :
1. الضرب على مناطق مختلفة من الجسم.
2. عدم السماح له بتأدية الشعائر الدينية.
3. الاحتجاز الفردي.
4. عدم السماح له بأستخدام دورات المياه او الاستحمام.
5. عدم السماح له بالاسترخاء او النوم.
6. الصعق الكهربائي.
7. وضع مادة حارقة على الوجه.
8. استخدام الفيلقة ” التعليق من الرجلين بسقف الغرفة ” .
9. التهديد بإنتهاك أعراض أهاليهم .و يعاني جميع المعتقلين بإصابات متفرقة شديدة – مرفق صور بعض المعتقلين بعد التعذيب – في الوجه و اليدين و الرجلين و بالإضافة الحالة النفسية السيئة بسبب استخدام التعذيب القاسي.
ان جمعية شباب البحرين لحقوق الإنسان قد وثقت جميع قضايا التعذيب التي تعرض لها المعتقلين خلال فترة إحتجازهم ، و قد إرسلت بطلب عاجل الى المقرر الخاص بالتعذيب في الامم المتحدة للتدخل العاجل للتحقيق في التعذيب الذي تعرض له معتقلين قرية المعامير .
و قد سبق لجمعية شباب البحرين لحقوق الإنسان ان تقدمت بشكاوي الى المقررين الخاصيين في الامم المتحدة حول الإعتقال التعسفي و التعذيب في قضية قتل الشرطي الباكستاني في منطقة كرزكان ، و في 30 مايو 2008 ارسل كلا من المقرر الخاص بالتعذيب ، المقرر الخاص بإستقلالية القضاة و المحامين ، المقرر الخاص بحرية التعبير ، مجموعة العمل المعنية بالأعتقال التعسفي و المقرر الخاص بالمدافعين عن حقوق الإنسان خطاب الى الحكومة البحرينية للإستفسار عن موضوع الشكوى ، و في 14 اغسطس 2008 ردت الحكومة البحرينية بالآتي:
” ان الحكومة البحرينية قد استفادة من الأدلة الموجودة لديهم كالصور و الشهادات و الإعترافات ، و ان هذه الادلة ادت الى الوصول الى المتهمين، و ان المتهمين ليسوا نشطاء حقوق الإنسان ، و ان النيابة العامة لم تتلقى شكاوي حول تعرضهم للتعذيب و ان الطبيب الشرعي قام بفحصهم و لم يوضح الفحص ظهور آثار تعذيب ، و ان الأفعال التي ارتكبها المتهمين ليست ضمن حرية الرأي و التعبير ” ( مرفق رد الحكومة البحرينية ) .
ان جمعية شباب البحرين لحقوق الإنسان تطالب :
1- الإفراج الفوري و الغير مشروط عن المعتقلين .
2- محاسبة الجهات الأمنية التي قامت بالتعذيب .
3- تشكيل لجنة تحقيق في وفاة الوافد الباكستاني بالمشاركة مع المؤسسات الحقوقية .
4- التعاون مع الجهات الدولية و خصوصا الامم المتحدة في الرد على الشكاوي بشفافية و صراحة .جمعية شباب البحرين لحقوق الإنسان
