[...] Iran drop shipping missiles to Sudan re-spun by the regime to Eritirea, which is a nasty little country in its own right. Man, thats complicated. Ah, better in English from the Gulf News Earlier on Monday, the independent paper Al Ahali said that the Iranian Revolutionary Guards train Al Houthi rebels in training camps in neighboring Eritrea. The paper also said that the Iranian revolutionary guards transport the weapons through the Eritrean harbour of Asab, from where it is transported to Yemen’s Midi Harbour.
I doubt that the missiles are for the Houthi rebels and that the Houth’s are smuggling in weapons.
Firstly Houthis are almost broke, they have very little funds. I doubt very much that Iran has given them any significant finds and/or has given them weapons free of charge.
Secondly, Houthis have no need to purchase or smuggle weapons as they are obtaining their arms free of charge from the Yemenite army, whenever they abandon their positions and run or surrender (they have been doing a lot of this).
Thirdly, Houthis strategically have no need for missiles. Tanks are being destroyed by rockets being launched from tubes (I don’t know their names).
I think these missiles are either going to Al Qaida or some tribes are arming themselves. If it’s the tribes then they are using some of the money which Saudi Arabia has splashed out to the sheiks to buy Ali Abdulah Saleh support and loyalty. If it’s for Al Qaida then Saleh is facilitating this to keep them loyal to him. I would put my money on the tribes (these missiles could still find their way to Al Qaida)
