Yemen Observer: Extensive gun fire was exchanged between the security forces and Jihadist militants groups in Khanfar district, Abyan province in the south of Yemen, last Saturday, said a source at the local council of Khanfar district.

A soldier was killed and two other soldiers were wounded, after the security forces arrested Fikri Ammorah , a member of the Jihadist group in Ja’ar of Khanfar district, said the source.

“Following Ammorah’s arrest, the jihadist groups, lead by Amir Sami Dyan, launched an offensive at the security center in Ja’ar, in an attempt to release Ammorah.” said the source. Ammorah is being detained for committing a number of crimes including murder and looting.

Jihadist militants have kidnapped Adel Hamoud al-Sabri, Deputy Governor of Abyan province, and ran away with the hostage to Ryamis district of Yafe’a district in Lahj province, Marebpress news quoted from local sources.

Fikri Ammorah was one of the 50 jihadists that were released from the Political Security prisons in Ramadan month, as a pardon; earlier this year, 50 jihadists were arrested when the government military and security forces launched a wide scale offensive against the Jihadist groups in Abyan province.

Sana’a, Yemen – A policeman was killed and two others injured in clashes with members of an Islamist militant group in southern Yemen on Sunday, police sources said.

The fighting broke out in Khanfar district of the southern province of Abyan after around 30 armed members of the Jihad group attacked a police compound in an attempt to free a detained comrade, the sources told the German Press Agency dpa.

Security forces set up blockades on roads and began a manhunt for the attackers, who fled to mountains.

Abyan, some 70 kilometres east of the southern port city of Aden, is one of the strongholds of al-Qaeda and other Yemeni Jihadist groups.

Authorities believe that dozens of members of al-Qaeda and other Jihadist groups are taking shelter in remote areas of Abyan and three other lawless provinces where they have found support among tribal chieftains. M&C
