Houthis are quite different from twelver shias found in Iran in their beliefs and practices. Just because of the term "shias", Iran gets implicated unnecessarily. Iran has never played any part in internal Yemeni politics even prior to 1962 when North Yemen was ruled by a Houthi (Zaydi) Shia cleric. In fact, initially the Saudi intelligence supported the Houthi uprising against President Ali Abdallah Al-Saleh because of him being a Zaydi Shia and his suppression of Sunni uprising against him in Southern Yemen. Saudi Arabia has a history of interference in the internal affairs of various states on the Arabian peninsula and Yemen is no exception. The Saudi provinces of Najran and Asir were traditionally part of Yemen. In future the Northern Yemeni provinces of Saada, Amran, Hajjah and Jizan can re-unite with Asir and Najran to form a Houthi dominated Yemeni state, as should always have been the case and shift the balance of power in the Arabian peninsula away from Saudi Arabia.
