Yemen Appeals Court Reduced Sentences for al Qaeda

Criminal Section specialized in issues of the state cases in Yemen, chaired by Judge Mohammed al-Hakimi on Tuesday judged the approval of imprisonment of the first defendant Usama Muhsin Assadi for seven years, reducing the sentence of the second defendant Isam Ali Ghailan for to 4 years and a half, reducing g the sentence of the third defendant Munir Hassan al-Buni from 7 to 4.5 years.
The First Instance Court, chaired by Judge Muhsin Alwan had last February condemned the defendants or planning for terrorist acts and affiliation to al-Qaeda organization. The court sentenced their imprisonment for seven years and jailing the fourth def3endant to 2 years on charge of forgery.
The prosecution accused the defendants of participation in an armed group in a criminal agreement for targeting foreign tourists and places of their presence by using explosive belts , planning for targeting government installations and foreign interests and forgery of weapon licenses attributed to political security branch and branch of the central security in Haja province .
The defendants were arrested last July and seized with them large quantities of offensive and defensive weapons as well as large quantities of ammunition.
