Adios al Reimi? Air strike in Yemen
That’s some good targeting right there, if it turns out to be true. Two cars, no civilians, direct hit. Ammar Al Waeli? Fascinating. Update: They are “almost certain” al Reimi was killed. Also: Mr. Ayman was an Egyptian jihadist who had arranged many suicide bombings in Afghanistan, the official said. He had moved in and out of Yemen recently, and has been on Yemen’s most-wanted list for years… Another man targeted in the raid was known to have escaped, the official said: Ammar al-Waeli, an important arms dealer for Al Qaeda.
Update 2: Almotamar.net The ministry said the killed terrorists are Qassim al-Raimy, Ammar Abadah al-Waili, Saleh al-Tais, Ayedh Jaber al-Shabwani and Ibrahim Mohammed Saleh al-Banaa.
Reuters: “Two cars carrying eight dangerous al Qaeda members were hit in an area between Saada and al-Jouf,” the security official told Reuters.
“Two may have survived and escaped,” he added.
“The group included Qassem al-Remi, Ayed al-Shabwani, Ammar al-Waeli, and Saleh al-Teys,” said the official, adding that the four are wanted by Yemeni and U.S. security.
The source confirmed Qassem al-Reni was killed: “He is the al Qaeda military leader and senior planner of most operations in Yemen.
“He escaped two previous airstrikes,” he added.
The source said another al Qaeda militant, Ayed al-Shabwani, was killed in the same air strike.
Yemen had already intensified operations against al Qaeda since a Yemen-based wing of the group said it was behind a failed December 25 attempt to blow up a Detroit-bound U.S. airliner.
Yemen declared open war on al Qaeda on Thursday and warned its citizens against aiding the global militant group.
