Dictator’s forces kill four, shoot 90 in Taiz, Update artillery fired on protesters, Update 2: ongoing, tents burnt, corpses stolen, injured trapped

51, the deaths so far are tallied at 51, but many corpses and injured were kidnapped by the security forces. The water cannons shot petrol or gas on the protesters tents at 3 am while they were still inside, many burned. Charred bodies of children and the disabled were discovered this morning. Details and sniper videos below the fold.

Summary from the YT:Taiz, May 30 – A group of security force soldiers have raided the protest camp in the heart of Taiz city, known as the “Freedom Square”, at 3:00 AM on Sunday, 30 May, killing dozens of people and injuring others.

The loyalist soldiers attacked the square from all directions and gunmen in police and plain clothes shoot at protesters from the roofs of surrounding buildings.

The raid terrified local residents and thousands of protesters have fled the square after many of their tents were burned by security forces.

An unknown number called the Yemen Times correspondent in Taiz, threatening to kill him if he reported on any of the events that took place Sunday night in Taiz.

Until now, there are no accurate numbers of protesters killed or injured as the security forces have also stormed protest camp field hospital and the Al-Safwa Private Hospital, seizing dead bodies as well as some injured protesters.

Televisions and satellites inside the camp were also confiscated by the security forces. Two cars belonging to protesters have been burned by police and plainclothes gunmen.

Update 3: Its all burnt down, God knows how many killed (because the bodies are stolen) and injured (because the Field Hospital was attacked and the injured kidnapped.) Another vid: snipers shoot protesters from building.

Updated and bumped 8:30 pm EST: Under the direction of Brig. Gen Qiran, transfered from Aden in March because he’s just so brutal, the onslaught is ongoing in Taiz: cars burned, gas station bombed, looting, thugs broke into Safwa Hospital and attempted to break into the Field Hospital, the dead and injured were kidnapped and taken to unknown location, gunfire still continuous.

Currently many of the protesters are trapped inside the old school near Freedom Square where the protesters media center is. Before burning the tents, the militias stole their contents including phones, TVs, laptops etc. The last time the state stole dead bodies, HOOD reported they were found chopped up in garbage bags. Its so depressing. They attacked the square with bulldozers. They stole everything these people had and then burned the tents. Some who weren’t able to escape the flames and burned alive. Live stream

Urgent update: Saleh shelling protesters in Taiz. Heavy and light weapons includes anti-aircraft weapons. (3:45 pm EST)

Update: Saleh’s roof-top snipers open fire on unarmed protesters

Early reports: Four dead, over 100 with bullet wounds, some critical, 400 disabled by gas. Ongoing.

Monsters and Critics: Sana’a/Cairo – At least three people were killed and 90 were injured when security forces opened fire on protesters in the Yemeni city of Taiz on Sunday, the independent television station al-Suheil reported….Earlier Sunday Yemen’s opposition and a former defence minister who defected accused the president of allowing a southern city to fall to al-Qaeda, in order to convince the West to allow him to stay in power.

Zinjibar, the capital of Abyan province, fell to al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP), the Yemeni-based affiliate of the network on Saturday, the Yemen Observer reported, citing a security officer speaking on condition of anonymity.
He said militants took control of government installations and most districts in the city, which is 400 kilometres east of the Yemeni capital Sana’a and 80 kilometres east of the key southern port of Aden.

Former defence minister Abdullah Ali Eleiwa, who had defected along with a large number of security and army members, issued a communique Sunday accusing the government of ‘leaving the city for militants, terrorists and saboteurs who were created by the regime.’

The regime is ‘trying to tarnish the image of the army, security and portray it as a failed institution,’ said Eleiwa in the statement broadcast on opposition television channel Suheil TV.
The Joint Meeting Parties (JMP), Yemen’s main opposition bloc, also accused Saleh of allowing the militants to seize Zinjibar.

And the cowardly opportunists who lead the youth revolution still refuse to issue a call to arms because they want to trade their mass support for a position in the state so as to later betray their constituency. Provoking the ruling class with a mobilization could jeopardize that opportunity.

Hopefully the people of yemen realize that a revolution can only be peaceful if the correlation of forces is so adverse to the ruling class that the latter make a calculation that resistance is an exercise in futility. By taking a utopian pacifist position, the opportunist leadership paradoxically cause a bloodbath. There is no half revolution, If the reformists are unwilling to take power via revolutionary violence and Saleh drowns the revolution in blood, a terrible fate awaits them. It is better never to scare the elites in the first place if a movement is unwilling to finish what was started. There are living horror movies that will be waiting for these pacifists, torture so bad that they will be begging to die. Cowardice in revolutionary times digs the deepest grave.

[...] Incredible cruel and graphic pictures from the city of Taiz inYemen. Republican Guards and armed thugs caused a bloodbath when they broke up a camp that protesters since four months maintained on Freedom Square. The first video shows clearly how thugs and army snipers were shooting at the crowd. AFP reported on Monday that some 20 people were killed. Earlier reports spoke about 90 – 120 wounded. The second and third video show the chaos in a hospital in Taiz and the burning of tents and other possesions of the protesters. Jane Novack reported on her blog that also many things like telephones, laptops etc.- were stolen. She wrote that even the exact number of deaths is unknown, as also many bodies were taken away from the streets or even stolen from hospitals. [...]
