Awlaki trained Farouk, the jet bomber, on how to detonate bomb

I thought we knew that a long time ago:

Radical American cleric Anwar al-Awlaki was directly involved in the failed Christmas 2009 plot on a commercial jet and failed October 2010 plot on cargo planes, according to the federal bulletin issued after Awlaki was killed Friday in a U.S. drone attack in Yemen.

The Homeland Security/FBI bulletin, obtained by Fox News, specifically says Awlaki, an influential new-generation figure in Al Qeada, showed the suspected Christmas Day bomber how to detonate the bomb he is accused of hiding in his underwear.

Dear Jane, there is a serious overlapping on this issue. Although admitting that Al-awlaki was inciting some Muslim youths to attack American targets, it is worthy to mention that Anwar has nothing in common with militants of Ansaru Alsharya’a who dominate some territoriesin Abyan. This information i got from my Abyan fellows here in India and interestingly that the radical groups in Abyan were the products of Saleh’s regime. Anwar even might not be directly connected to Al-Qaeda’s central leadership in Afghanistan. However, the Sep/11 attacks could have been an inspiration for him to make his own Jihaddist network taking advantage from the radical escapees who fled a crackdown in Saudi Arabia.

hi Nezar, its my impression and several defectors have said also that the regime is behind the violence in Abyan. I dont know about Awlaki’s connections to anybody but the Nigerian who said he was trained by Awlaki. The US media made him into a boogy man but I agree with the assessment that the other real ones are still dangerous.
